You probably think that you know Kenya pretty well- after all, you’re a Kenyan. You may know that Kenya has plenty to offer tourists- but how often do you take advantage of the world of attractions that are just outside your door? And this is at a price to suit your own pocket.

Of course, you’ve probably promised yourself that one day you’ll get out there and see what Kenya has to offer, maybe show the kids why they should be proud to be Kenyan. You’ve just been too busy, between work, family and social commitments.

But being so busy is just why you should take a break and discover Kenya- its an opportunity to relieve some stress and frustration, and take a fresh look at your country and yourself. Its time to sit back and let the world pass by.

But how? Taking a holiday in Kenya doesn’t mean making a huge investment in terms of cash, time or energy.

With visitor attractions as diverse as those we have, there are opportunities to suit everyone’s budgets, schedules and individual interests.

Whether it’s a family holiday, a romantic weekend away, a special birthday or anniversary, or a group of friends looking for either adventure or relaxation- Kenya has it all.

There are so many travel agents, tour operators, safari companies, hotels, lodges, camps and homestays in Kenya that you can be sure of finding something that suits you- and you may well find a better bargain than you ever expected.

Hotels offer special package rates for weekend or holiday stays, often including all meals. Kenya has a wide variety of hotels to suit all budgets and tastes- and most of them give special rates to Residents.

Tented Camps - If you like the idea of camping out but don’t want to sacrifice comfort and service- try a tented camp. With large tents fitted out with beds, ensuite bathrooms and verandah areas- these camps offer a safari in style.

Camps and Bandas - To really experience Kenya under canvas there are plenty of well appointed campsites in holiday areas all over the country- often with tent rental available. Sometimes simple, self-catering bandas are also available. KWS have excellent Bandas available for hire throughout the country at very affordable prices.

Homestays and Houses - In some areas, local people let out rooms or guesthouses. This is an economical and interesting way to spend a holiday- and a great way to experience some other Kenyan cultures firsthand. Individual houses can be rented for short term lets in holiday areas- an excellent option for large families or groups of friends.

Coast

Kenya’s beaches are among the worlds best, with warm, clear water, soft sand and a constant refreshing sea breeze. Our calm seas are ideal for water sports, sailing, jet-skiing, windsurfing and kite surfing.

The key to these calm waters is the fringe of coral reefs that protect our shores. These reefs are home to a remarkable profusion of undersea life- which can be seen from a special glass bottom boat, or up close and personal by snorkellers and scuba divers.

But when you come to the coast, step back from the beach and discover all that the coast has to offer. This is the home of Swahili culture, and the monuments at Fort Jesus, Malindi and Gedi stand testament to some of our richest cultural heritage.

Lamu is a place unlike any other- a small island where history lives and breathes in the narrow streets of the stone town. There are coastal forests such as Arabuko Sokoke and Jadini- and wildlife reserves, from Dodori in the North to Shimba and Mwalanganji in the South. Mombasa is one of the most active and exotic ports on the African coast, with nightlife to match.

The coast experience is about more than just beaches.
